The rules of Blackjack are fundamentally very simple, although there can be a number of variations. You are certainly advised to know the way in which the odds can be affected by changing rules. You can keep hitting as much as you like, until either you decide your hand is as close to twenty one as can be, or you go bust.
The dealer will be playing against you forever. Dealers will begin with a pair of cards, and through judicious game tactics aim to rival your score without going bust. Assuming both dealer and you don't go bust, and don't make 21, it is the one with the biggest score who is the winner. In many casinos there is a rule that means the dealer is compelled to stand if the worth of their cards becomes seventeen. If the dealer's hand exceeds the value of twenty one then they are bust, and you become the victor.
Despite the apparent simplicity when it comes to the rules of this game, be aware that many casinos follow different versions. For example, by not forcing dealers to stick at 17, your chances of winning reduce dramatically. One other possibility is in allowing the separation of a pair. If, for example, you have two eights, you can split these into two separate hands. Naturally, for the participant, being able to split effectively doubles the chance of you winning, or at least breaking even. You will find yourself in trouble if such a provision is not there.
You might be contemplating what Blackjack is - it is when the first 2 cards in your hand, or the dealer's, total exactly 21, in this scenario you'll be pleased to confirm the odds, usually 3/2 (when you have Blackjack - if the dealer has Blackjack you loose), so you'd get a 45 dollar profit on an investment of 30.
